Frankfurt Airport is gearing up to open Terminal 3 in 2026, promising to ease congestion and improve passenger experience. Terminal 3 will significantly expand the airport’s capacity and modernize its facilities, making it a key travel hub in Europe.
The new terminal aims to streamline connections and offer more amenities for millions of travelers each year. As one of Europe’s busiest airports, this addition marks a major step in Frankfurt’s growth.
A Modern Gateway
Terminal 3 brings a sleek, modern look to Frankfurt Airport, designed with wide walkways, open spaces, and plenty of seating. In the following tweet, a team member described seeing the design come to life on-site as “watching it turn into magic”:
Travelers can expect automated check-ins, smart security lanes, and clear digital signage to simplify the journey from start to gate.
The terminal also uses sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems while offering expanded dining, shopping, and easy access to other terminals.
Built for Volume
Terminal 3 is built to accommodate up to 25 million passengers annually, easing pressure on Frankfurt Airport’s existing terminals. Its expanded capacity supports smoother operations and more travel options.
The terminal includes 121 check-in counters, 65 gates, and multiple lounges and retail spaces. In the following tweet, it was noted that 91 lift controllers from Schmersal Böhnke + Partner are being installed, highlighting the scale of its infrastructure:
Wide corridors and automation throughout the terminal aim to keep passengers moving quickly and comfortably.
Smoother Connections
Terminal 3 is built to streamline connections across one of Europe’s largest airports. Shorter walking distances, clearer signage, and organized layouts help passengers move through the space with ease. As shown in the following video, the airport’s size can be overwhelming:
To bridge this scale, the terminal links directly with existing terminals via an automated people mover. This fast connection cuts down on transfer times significantly.
Upgraded baggage systems and real-time flight info ensure smoother transitions, even during peak travel.

Hi, my name is Jodie Price and I have been a flight attendant for the past four years. Before that, I was a teacher at a local school. During my summer vacations from teaching, I loved to jet off on an exciting adventure whenever I could. But the flights stressed me and my friends out so much that we almost stopped vacationing altogether. Would another form of transportation be easier?
