Can You Bring An Electric Razor On A Plane?
If you’re about to head on vacation or a business trip and want to be properly shaven for it, then you will need to know what kind of razors you can bring on a plane.
Electric razors are some of the most convenient around, but when it comes to planes, you will find that there are restrictions on what shaving equipment can be brought with you in your carry-on luggage.
So, do electric razors fall under these restrictions? Or, are you free to take them on a plane without issues?
We will tell you all in this article, so read on for more!
Can You Bring An Electric Razor On A Plane?
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has the responsibility of deciding what can and cannot be brought onto planes, as they are responsible for security in all airports in the US!
The TSA says that yes, you are permitted to bring an electric razor with you in your carry-on luggage! They are suitable to bring onto planes so you should face no trouble at the airport.
Both cordless and corded electric razors are permitted on planes, and you are also permitted to pack the batteries in your carry-on luggage, too. However, the batteries must be stored correctly, or else they may short out.
However, there are certain rules surrounding electric razors that you should be aware of before you make this decision. Let’s check them out below!
Storing Your Electric Razor Correctly
You will need to make sure your electric razor is stored correctly if you want to bring it with you on an airplane.
You need to ensure that your electric razor is covered so none of the sharp ends are poking out, as this poses a safety risk for you, airport staff, and other passengers.
It is also a good idea to package them securely so they do not get damaged at any point during your travels. And, make sure they are clean before you pack them or you risk bacteria growth on the razor during the flight.
Remembering The Liquid Rule
There’s no point in bringing an electric razor if you can’t shave with it! So, it is a good idea to learn the rules airports have when it comes to liquids like shaving cream.
Generally, airports have a rule for liquids and gels that is good to remember, alongside the rule for bringing an electric razor on the plane.
Liquids, including shaving cream, need to be kept in a bottle that has a 3.40z capacity maximum.
On top of this, these bottles that contain shaving cream or any other liquid need to be stored in a zip-top bag, typically quart-sized and made from transparent plastic.
They then need to be kept in a filtering bin to go through an x-ray.
If you go against this rule, then you risk your liquids and gels being taken from you.
What Other Razors Can Be Brought On A Plane?
As well as electric razors being permitted on planes, you can bring spare razors and disposable razors. However, these also need to be stored in a container so they will not become a safety risk.
As previously mentioned, these items need to be stored in a quart-sized, transparent bag. You are only permitted one bag for every item, so one razor per bag.
What Razors Cannot Be Brought On A Plane?
Even though electric razors are acceptable to bring on planes, there are other types of razors that aren’t! For example, airports do not permit you to bring straight razors, razor blades, or box cutters on planes.
This is because they are considered to be too sharp, and therefore dangerous to take on the flight. Similarly, you are not permitted to bring a safety razor on a plane unless you have removed the blade beforehand.
If you are found with either a straight or safety razor, then there is a high chance it will be confiscated.
So, if you want to bring either one of these items, then you will need to either ship it to yourself once you are settled in or check it in your baggage.
Can An Electric Razor Be Used On A Flight?
If you struggle to go one day without a shave, then you will want to know whether or not you can use an electric razor on your flight.
The answer is yes, you are permitted to use an electric razor on a plane!
However, there are certain rules that must be adhered to, such as:
- The electric razor must be cordless because you are not permitted to plug anything into a plane outlet. This rule applies to the majority of electronic devices, not just razors.
- You may only use the razor in the bathroom. And, while you are using it, the door must remain closed so you do not cause disturbance to other passengers.
- You need to wash any hairs that fall into the sink to be considerate of other plane passengers who need to use the restroom after you. You must also wash away any gel or shaving cream before leaving the restroom.
Final Thoughts
The TSA does permit individuals to bring both corded and cordless electric razors on planes, as well as disposable razors and spare razors.
However, this is subject to certain conditions. For example, these razors must be stored safely in a tight, quart-sized bag made from transparent plastic, and only one razor is permitted in a bag.
This is so you prevent the razor from becoming dirty or damaged, and they do not pose a safety risk to you, airplane staff, or other passengers.
You are also permitted to use a cordless electric razor on a plane, provided you clean up the restroom afterward and keep the door closed.
However, you are not permitted to bring straight or safety razors (unless the blade has been removed) onto planes, because these are deemed too sharp and therefore, too dangerous.

Hi, my name is Jodie Price and I have been a flight attendant for the past four years. Before that, I was a teacher at a local school. During my summer vacations from teaching, I loved to jet off on an exciting adventure whenever I could. But the flights stressed me and my friends out so much that we almost stopped vacationing altogether. Would another form of transportation be easier?
